Vancouver Taxis

Getting Around in Vancouver Taxis CabsTaxis may be another option for many travellers in Vancouver.  Taking the taxi may be quite convenient depending on where you are, and will take you directly to your preferred destination.  You also do not need to spend time looking for parking, which may be difficult at times, especially during peak travel times in the downtown core.  However, taxi rates in Vancouver can be fairly expensive when compared to other big cities.  So, unless you are travelling with a group of people who may help you share the costs, many do not find taxis as their preferred mode of transport.

From the airport:

Taxi will cost about $35 from Airport to Vancouver (note: prices are subject to change based on time of day and traffic congestion).  All taxi fares charged per meter rate based on time, distance and initial flat rate (includes first 1/13th km).  To locate the taxi stand, just follow the taxi signage at the airport terminal exits.

Anywhere in town:

There are many taxi companies that you can use within the city.  Here is a short list:

How to get a taxi?

If you know when and where you would like to have your taxi, calling the taxi company directly will save you time and ensure taxi availability.  You may reserve a taxi a couple hours beforehand, or even a day in advance if you prefer (e.g. for departure to the airport).  From past experience, Yellow Cab has always been very dependable, and has been set on our speed dial. We have stayed with them for the following reasons:

(1)   Whenever we pre-book a taxi, they are always on time, if not early

(2)   They have an automated phone system that notifies you when the taxi will be soon arriving

(3)   They have a record of your address based on the phone number given from the last service.  This feature saves a lot of time since you do not have to the information to the dispatch staff each time you call.

What methods of payments do taxis accept?

Most taxis accept most major credit cards, as well as cash.  But, to be on the safe side, always request for a taxi that accepts your preferred form of payment at time of reservation.
